scales display error negative value

The market demand for electronic scales has increased dramatically, and scales are widely used in all walks of life. There are more and more scale suppliers, but the uneven quality of software and scales has also led to some problems in our daily use. Today we mainly talk about how to solve the problem of negative numbers on the scale.

When encountering negative numbers during use, our first reaction may be: the scale is installed with a cheating device! Someone is cheating! However, negative numbers on the scale are not only cheating, but more often it may be some simple minor problems.

Common Reasons

1.Incorrect Zeroing or Tare

Scale Not Zeroed Properly

Before weighing, an electronic scale should be zeroed, meaning it starts at zero when empty. If this step is skipped or done incorrectly, the scale might display negative values.

Improper Tare Function

The tare function is used to subtract the weight of a container or other items from the total weight. If the tare is set incorrectly or if it’s applied without removing the item afterward, the scale might show negative values.

2.Load Cell Issues

Load Cell Damage

The sensor design of the electronic scale is a pressure elastic structure. Generally, after weighing, the elastic body has not returned to its position in time, which may cause negative numbers.

Load Cell Wiring Problems

Loose or faulty wiring between the load cells and the scale’s display unit can also lead to incorrect readings, including negative numbers.

3.Calibration Problems

Incorrect Calibration

Calibration ensures that the scale’s measurements are accurate. If the scale is not calibrated correctly, it may display negative values even when there is no load. Recalibration using proper weights can often fix this issue.

Environmental Factors Temperature Fluctuations

Extreme temperatures or sudden changes in temperature can affect the performance of electronic components, leading to inaccurate or negative readings. Vibrations or Movements: If the scale is placed in an area with excessive vibrations or movement, it may not function properly and could display negative values.

4.Electrical Interference

Power Supply Issues

There is a problem with the circuit inside the scale. Check whether the voltage and current of each part are normal and whether the working state of the scale is stable. Nearby

Electrical Devices

Other electronic devices near the scale may cause electromagnetic interference, leading to incorrect readings.

5.Mechanical Obstructions

Debris Under the Scale

If there’s debris, dirt, or any object stuck under the scale, it might cause the scale to display negative values. Ensure the scale is clean and free from obstructions.

Uneven Surface

Placing the scale on an uneven or unstable surface can cause it to read incorrectly, sometimes showing negative numbers.

6. Software or Firmware Glitches

Outdated Firmware

If the scale’s firmware is outdated or has bugs, it could cause incorrect readings. Updating the firmware might resolve the issue.

Software Settings

If the scale is connected to a computer or another device, check the software settings. Incorrect settings could lead to negative values being displayed.

Solution to negative numbers when weighing

1.Check the circuits of the electronic scale, the sensors and the limit switches for any changes. Open the main line and the junction box to check. It is also recommended to clear the items under the scale.

2.When weighing an electronic scale, if a negative number appears, press the reset button immediately! Otherwise, the weight after weighing will be less than the actual weight. There are two general reset methods:

Normal reset

For example, if the elastic body of the sensor is not fully reset, a value of -40KG appears. In this case, the reset is normal reset, allowing the instrument to maintain zero again.

Illegal reset

For example, if a vehicle or a heavy object is weighing on the electronic scale, and the reset button is pressed, then when the vehicle or heavy object is unloaded, a negative number appears on the instrument. This negative number is a malicious operation and should be reset again.

3.If it is a limit switch problem, first adjust the limit switch to a looser position.

The following steps

1.First check if the voltage is insufficient.

2.Set the return to zero. If you add a container before weighing the item, and then use the return to zero key to remove the weight of the container, when you remove the container, an equal negative number will appear.

3.Calibrate with standard weights and reset the scale value.

4.If the electronic floor scale has been used for a long time, it is usually caused by aging of the sensor. Check whether the contact between the sensor and the ADF is good.

5.The circuit board is damp. First check whether there is soda in the junction box. If the above situation occurs, use a hair dryer to dry it.

6.There is garbage around the sensor. Do not let mice or cockroaches and other small creatures invade the machine to avoid damage.
